UPDATE: 3-MONTH MRI

UPDATE: 3-MONTH MRI

(Wistful look out into the distance for the
3 months of recovery that hath gone by...)
Happy Anniversary to my missing tumor!! And to the hippo that escaped my camp(the part of my hippocampus they removed)!! As of March 3, it’s been 3 months since surgery…and the official end of my seizures!!! :D I have not had ANY issues with my brain shutting down, I can stay awake all day, and you can’t even tell I got a haircut!πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

My new job has been going great :) Only a few more months until my license is valid...although kinda bummed it was ACTUALLY suspended...apparently I have to get an official doctor's note to get it back in August...

So now I’ve had my follow-up MRI. Basically, they wanted to re-scan my brain to make sure there’s no evidence of any pesky tumors or random blobs in my head. The MRI is scheduled 3 months after surgery because that’s when any pesky brain blobs would start to show…and let’s be real…VCU misses me, my onesies and my cupcake hat way too much to wait any longerπŸ˜‰

My parents and I went to the hospital, and I made friends with the receptionist while filling out paperwork…what do those little beads in hand sanitizer really do anyways? Not to mention there is a little checklist of conditions they want to know if you have...and believe me...I feel a LOT healthier after reading all the ways I could be slowly falling apart! Or getting put back together if you had any of those "reconstructive" surgeries...I've only had pieces of myself taken out! Lolz..just my brain...such a great excuse to forget things though πŸ˜‹ At least the receptionist thought I had my entire brain... Then I was just waiting to get my test...
She was really excited about the hand sanitizer
GAHIOFHANIVOKNERAGOUAWHEIOFA!?!?!?!?!??? IT ONLY TOOK 5 MINS TO BE SEEN!!!! …NOT EVEN 5 MINS!!!!!

Advice from my Tech: DONT wear the skull/crossbones lanyard
I sat down, grabbed 2 pieces of sushi, and literally was taking a bite of corn when the MRI tech came out to get me. There must be some kind of special holiday I didn’t know about because it’s NEVER taken that quick to go back to an actual procedure.

He took me back to the “locker room” so I could leave my stuff somewhere during the scan. I took locker #1 because I'm obviously #1. Also I finished eating that piece of corn faster than a hungover frat boy finishing a pizza. Then we got down to business…
  • The IV: this ended up being kind of an ordeal…because I casually fainted when the nurse tried to tap my vein. Uh….yeah…was really weird…just chillin’ out being poked with a needle, started feeling funny, then woke up with an alcohol wipe under my nose and one of my flip-flops a foot away from my foot…huh. Weird. It was probably another hippo leaving camp or something like that….ehh…
  • The MRI: So I survived the IV, and got into the MRI room. They have better customer service in the hospital than most hotels. I got a blanket! And they let me wear my cupcake hat! So yeah, it was a pretty comfortable mini naptime. It was about 30mins total brain scan time….halfway through they tried that stabbing my arm thing again. This time we had a little more luck with the IV. Didn’t take much to beat that whole fainting thing, but I maintained consciousness this time! SUCCESS!
The IV wasn’t for anesthesia, BTW. I was getting an MRI with Contrast, so basically they inject my brain with food coloring so they get a better picture. Here’s hoping I don’t pee blue…(Update: I didn’t.) Thank god for earplugs, too, because that MRI machine purrs louder than my cat!
So yay, the brain scan is done…now what? Ummm DUHHH Easy choice!

  • EMU Re-Revisited: I had to make it back to see the team of nurses that took care of me BOTH times that I was in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. So I did! I brought them a little thank you gift…a PANDA! (bc of my awesome panda onesie, obviously) I got to see 2 of my nurses, and she was so sweet…she made me sign the panda so they remembered who it came from lol it was nice to see her again!
  • Lunch. I was hungry, ok?? And tired…I think I might fall asleep soonnnnnnnnnnnn…………………

..

Ok I'm awake and actually home now….time to wait for the resultssssss!! :D
